Band #9 – Fancy Me Yet

Written by: Slurpee of Slurpee Battle of the Bands

Get ready to meet Fancy Me Yet, one of the three bands to be playing at the House of Blues in Dallas with headliner B.o.B. These guys are ready to rock your computer off your lap so don’t forget to tune in to the live stream at 7 pm CST on Friday August 6.

1. Tell us the story of how you guys met and started playing together. What’s the evolution of your band been like?

Natasha: Alex and I met through friends. We both realized we had similar taste in music and started writing together, that’s when the idea of Fancy Me Yet was born. We knew we needed a drummer, and before we publicly posted our search for one, Chris wrote us on MySpace letting us know he was a fan of the music and that he happened to play drums. It’s been history ever since.

2. Tell us about the band members.

Chris, drummer (described by Natasha and Alex): Chris is a really great drummer. Natasha: and he’s always updating me with new music. He makes the best mixtapes ever!

Natasha, vocals and keyboard (described by Alex and Chris): Alex: Natasha brings an incredible amount of experience from her past, and man what a voice! Chris: She can walk faster than I can run too!

Alex, guitar & vocals (described by Chris and Natasha): Chris: Alex is not actually my twin brother. Natasha: Alex is definitely the prankster in the band.

3. What’s your craziest fan story?

Natasha: Hmmm, our craziest fan story, it would have to be having a fan find our hotel and room number so they can call and talk to us.

4. How did you hear about Slurpee® Battle of the Bands? How does it feel to be one of 12 bands chosen from 900+ bands chosen to go on to the next phase?

Chris: I was checking our band’s MySpace page one day and saw a flashy 7-Eleven banner offering a chance to win $10,000. When we got the email that we were chosen, Alex didn’t believe me that I had signed us up and almost deleted it for thinking it was spam. Being chosen out of 900+ bands is a real confidence booster for our band and we’re very thankful for being given this opportunity!

Natasha: I’m so happy! I mean, this is an amazing opportunity and we’re so excited to be able to be part of this!

Alex: I’m stoked! It’s great waking up every day with something like this to look forward to!

5. What are some of your biggest musical influences? If you were to go back in time, during which musical era would you want to play?

Chris: Placebo, Oasis and The Killers have probably influenced me the most. Jazz is one of my favorite styles to play so the 1920s or ‘30s would definitely be my choice.

Natasha: Blondie, The Killers, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. If I could be a musician in any era it would definitely be the ‘80s. I feel that the ‘80s really taught us all that music is not only for your ears or your hips to move to, but it is also a lifestyle.  It’s the reason music is a pop culture.

Alex: The Receiving End of Sirens, Circa Survive, U2, Led Zeppelin. I would have to say the ‘80s. It was a decade of decadence. MTV was born. New Wave and Thrash were created. Plus, who doesn’t want a poodle haircut?

6.  How does it feel to be opening for B.o.B?

Chris: It still hasn’t hit me yet!

Natasha: Honestly, I was at karaoke two months ago singing “Nothin On You.” I’m so stoked!

Alex: It’s crazy when I hear B.o.B. on the radio and think, “We’re going to open up for him.”

7. What do you think about the fact that your band’s live event will be streamed through Facebook to our more than 1.3 million fans worldwide?

Natasha: I think this is an amazing opportunity to share our music with the world and introduce them all to Fancy Me Yet!

8. If you get elected to the 3rd round of voting, you’ll have the chance to make a music video. Which song of yours would you choose and why?

Chris: “Middle Man.” I think it’s the one song that’s able to capture our sound and style as a whole.

Natasha: I agree with Chris, I would choose “Middle Man.” The lyrics in that song tell a story and are visual which works to our advantage for a video.

Alex: “Middle Man” was the song we were waiting to write. When we finished we sat back, listened, and thought: wow this is Fancy Me Yet.

9. What’s your favorite Slurpee flavor of all time?

Chris: Half Coca-Cola, half cherry.

Natasha: Half Strawberry Kiwi, half Banana

Alex: Layers! One quarter Coca-Cola, one quarter Fanta Orange, one quarter Wild Cherry and one quarter Banana.

10.  If Slurpee Nation™ had a theme song, what would it be?

Alex (sings one on the spot): Slurpee Slurpee I’m Happy. Slurpee Slurpee OOWww Brain Freeze.

11. If you win, what will you do with $10K?

Chris: We would all relocate to a location more accustomed to our style of music. California would be the most likely place, that or buy a bunch of Slurpees.

Natasha: Move to California & stay cool drinking Slurpees!

Alex: Move to LA with the band which is a mecca for music or buy a lifetime supply of toilet paper.

12. If there was one thing you could say to the Slurpee Nation and all of its fans, what would it be?

Natasha: Thank you for your support. I’m glad that you can be part of this large stepping stone for us.

Alex: Thanks a million to Slurpee for making music such a joy for the artists participating and the fans listening!
